Barry Burbank Takes a Hike

Windows to the Wild NEW Episode Airs Wednesday, October 24 at 7:30pm

(Durham, N.H., October 23, 2018) You may know him as a meteorologist for WBZ in Boston, but when Barry Burbank is not reporting on the weather, he prefers to be in the weather.

In this new episode of WINDOWS TO THE WILD, host Willem Lange takes hikes with Barry and his son Trevor to Frankenstein Cliffs in the White Mountains of New Hampshire.

On the way, Barry talks to Willem about his 42-year career forecasting the weather for WBZ. Barry's interest in weather started when he was a kid. "Storms excited me. I always wanted to know why they were happening and how they were created."

Barry thinks that as a meteorologist he sometimes spends more time indoors researching the weather and not enough time outside experiencing it. "Now I am at the point where I want to enjoy the weather more. I want to be out in it enjoying blizzards and thunderstorms not just predicting them," says Barry.

Hiking has become a passion for Barry. Currently he and Trevor are determined to hike all 4000 footers in the White Mountains. Hiking allows Barry and his son to become closer and escape the demands of everyday life. "Hiking is dedicated time. It is a way for us to see each other and talk about life," says Trevor.

Although in this episode the guys get themselves a little lost, they do find their way eventually to Arethusa Falls, a place that neither Barry or Trevor have been to before. Checking their map proves to be a humorous, but valuable, lesson to them all.

Viewers will enjoy the beautiful footage of the White Mountains in this episode as they learn about Barry Burbank and his interesting career as a meteorologist. Barry Burbank Takes a Hike is on WINDOWS TO THE WILD, Wednesday, October 24th at 7:30pm on NHPBS or online at nhpbs.org/windows.
