(Durham, October 1, 2018) - There's nothing better than hiking the trails in New Hampshire with your best friend. John Soebetzer’s trusty trail buddy is a 12 year old black schnauzer named Pepper. John and Pepper are accomplished hikers and are known for finishing the Grid together - that is hiking all 48 New Hampshire 4,000 footers. The pair meet up with WINDOWS TO THE WILD host Willem Lange and his dog Kiki at Pondicherry Wildlife Refuge in Jefferson, NH.
On a bluebird sky day, the foursome head out on a rail-to-trail. Ponds and mountains provide the backdrop as they share stories about being outdoors with their dogs .
Soebetzer loves to hike. He and Pepper find themselves out on many trails in New Hampshire almost every day of the year. “We’re pretty ordinary. The friendship we have, when you hike that much together and every single adventure I had in the last 11 years has been with him, that’s pretty special. He’s a good dog,” says Soebetzer.
The Pondicherry Wildlife Refuge is a perfect spot to see soaring eagles, beaver lodges and spot a variety of songbirds. Soebetzer meets longtime hiking friend Georg Feichtinger and his four-legged hiking companion, Lucy along the trail.
A new episode of WINDOWS TO THE WILD featuring the adventures of Lange and the accomplished canine hiker, Pepper premieres on Wednesday, October 3 at 7:30pm on NHPBS and online at nhpbs.org/windows.
