Windows to the Wild is Nominated for Two New England Regional Emmys

Durham, NH (April 10, 2026) - New Hampshire PBS is pleased to announce that two WINDOWS TO THE WILD programs, Discover Austria and Waterways & Wonders, are both nominated for Emmys in the 49^th Boston/New England Regional Emmy® Awards.

The WINDOWS TO THE WILD episode Discover Austria was nominated in the Lifestyle-Short and Long Format category and produced by Stephen Giordani. Host William Lange travels through Austria, from Salzburg’s Pegasus Fountain to Vienna’s Lipizzaner stallions. Along the way, he uncovers Baroque gardens, Melk Abbey and architectural marvels. This episode blends history, music and personal reflection, marking Lange’s 90th birthday with a heartfelt tribute to nature, culture and adventure.

“This journey was part travel, part history and part celebration,” said host Willem Lange. “If there’s a better way to turn 90, I can’t think of it.”

“We travel with fans of PBS and Windows to the Wild on these trips,” said producer Stephen Giordani. “And the raconteur-style stories Willem shares along the way really brings these travelogue programs to life.”

Nominated in the Magazine Program-Short and Long Format Content category is the WINDOWS TO THE WILD Waterways & Wonders episode, produced by Phil Vaughn. Viewers are invited to discover exciting activities on New England’s waterways—from rowing in a Dory along Maine's coast, hunting for an invasive crab in New Hampshire, to skating on one of the world’s longest ice trails.

“This episode explored stories in Maine, Vermont and New Hampshire,” said executive producer Phil Vaughn. “Each segment had a different angle—meeting a woman with a passion for rowing in Belfast, Maine, following biologists to a mud flat in New Castle to search for unwanted intruders, and lacing up our skates to try out an ice trail on Lake Morey in Vermont,” said Vaughn. “You just can’t beat that line up.”

“It’s incredible what our production team can accomplish,” said Peter Frid, NHPBS President and CEO. “With the loss of Federal funding, we’ve streamlined our local productions and services. And being 100 percent community funded, every dollar we raise helps us tell these impactful outdoor stories.”

The 20^th season of WINDOWS TO THE WILD took viewers all around New England’s waterways, forests, trails and backyards along with international travel specials, all while highlighting stories of adventure, conservation and community.

WINDOWS TO THE WILD launched digitally first this past season with bite-sized adventure stories. Those short videos became part of half-hour episodes that blended the digital stories with new content. Episodes streamed online and are also broadcast on New Hampshire PBS.

The 21^st season of WINDOWS TO THE WILD is currently in production. Willem Lange will host the award-winning show that will debut digitally in August.

The 49^th Boston/New England Emmy® Awards Gala will be held at the Marriott Boston Copley Place on Saturday, June 6, 2026.
