• 1775 - The British defeated the Americans in the Battle of Bunker Hil. 
• 1972 - Five White House operatives arrested for breaking the offices of the Democratic National Committee at the Watergate Hotel.  
• 1994 - Following low-speed highway chase, O. J. Simpson was arrested for the murder of his wife Nicole Simpson and Ronald Goldman. 
• 2015 - Nine people were killed in a racially motivated shooting at Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Charleston, South Carolina.
