Our Hometown Exeter

No one knows your hometown like you.

What better place to celebrate our country's 250th birthday, than in Exeter. It's one of New Hampshire's oldest towns, the site of the first documented town meeting, and the first state capitol. Host Becky Rule brings us these stories and more.

Established: 1638
Location: Rockingham County
Name: Named after Exeter, Devon, England, the home of early settler Reverend John Wheelwright and several of the town’s founders.
Notable: Exeter served as the Revolutionary War capital of New Hampshire and is home to the American Independence Museum, Phillips Exeter Academy, and the historic Swasey Parkway.
Try it: Walk through Exeter’s charming downtown, visit the Independence Festival in July, or explore the scenic trails along the Exeter River, where New Hampshire’s history and hometown pride meet.
