Manchester Central Defeats Portsmouth Christian Adademy

Granite State Challenge - Round One

Can you name the Sesame Street character who collects paper clips and bottle caps and has a pet pigeon named Bernice? None of the players for Manchester Central High or Portsmouth Christian Academy could come up with the correct answer for that question in the fourth Round One game of Granite State Challenge.

Manchester Central took an early lead in the game and held on to it to the end, beating Portsmouth Christian Academy by a final score of 620 to 290.

Playing for the Manchester Central Little Green were Kellan Barbee, Karishma Manchanda, Max Nakos, team captain Tamsin Weissberg and alternates Jonas Weissberg and Eamonn Ryan. The team is coached by Lorraine Meyette.

The Portsmouth Christian Academy Eagles were represented by captain Emilee Larose, Maggie Joyce, Nick Watson, Hannah Abraham and alternates Maeve Joyce and Hannah Pellerin. The team is coached by Rebekah Shoemaker and Ray Gamble.

Manchester Central now goes on to face Souhegan High in a quarterfinal match airing on April 6 @ 6 pm on NHPBS.

The game emphasizes quick recall of math, science, social studies, language arts, and fine arts facts—along with questions about current events, entertainment, sports and New Hampshire.
