Nashua High South Defeats Bishop Guertin High in GRANITE STATE CHALLENGE Semi Final Game

Moves on the SuperChallenge Championship Match

(DURHAM, April 29, 2017) - Two teams from the same city, both past GRANITE STATE SUPERCHALLENGE  champions, both teams more than hungry for a win -  that was backdrop the for the semifinal match between Bishop Guertin High and Nashua High South. Bishop Guertin made it past Concord High and Portsmouth Christian Academy to make it to the semifinals. Nashua High South defeated Raymond and Plymouth Regional High.

In a match that would determine who made it to the final SuperChallenge game, Nashua High South came ready to play and leapt to an early lead in the opening rounds. Despite strong play by Bishop Guertin, Nashua South maintained their lead throughout the game and went on to a 690 to 280 win over the Cardinals.

The Bishop Guertin Cardinals were represented by captain Holly Boivin, David MiCali, Gabby Paquet, John McCann and alternates Jack LeVasseur and Jack Groeneveld-Meijer. The Cardinals were coached Lisa LaRochelle. The Nashua High South Purple Panthers were represented by captain Nisha Devasia, Ankita Devasia, Jack Leatherman, Ben Telerski McCann and alternates George Eid and Waithira Kiritu. The Panthers were coached by Gregory Montine and Neil Claffey.

Nashua High South now advances to the SuperChallenge round of GRANITE STATE CHALLENGE. A win in the SuperChallenge game would make Nashua High South the first team in GRANITE STATE CHALLENGE history to win back-to back championships, but they will have to defeat one of two tough teams - Bedford High or Fall Mountain Regional High. Those two teams meet Saturday, May 6, at 6:00 p.m. on NHPTV PRIME in their semifinal match.

Hosted by Jim Jeannotte, the popular quiz contest began the season with 16 Granite State high school teams battling toward the coveted SUPERCHALLENGE title. Also, for a fifth year, there will be a Granite State vs. Bay State Governors Cup match between the winners of the GRANITE STATE SUPERCHALLENGE and the WGBH Boston High School Quiz Show.

New Hampshire's top high school academic teams demonstrate remarkable teamwork, quick thinking and smarts as they play GRANITE STATE CHALLENGE. The game emphasizes quick recall of math, science, social studies, language arts and fine arts facts - along with questions about current events, entertainment, sports, and New England.
