Bishop Guertin Narrowly Defeats Concord High on Granite State Challenge

DURHAM, February 25, 2017) – Bishop Guertin managed to come from behind to beat Concord High School with a score of 360 to 340 in this week’s Granite State Challenge. Concord came into the fourth round with an commanding lead, but Bishop Guertin had an impressive run of correct answers in the final minutes of the game and managed to overtake Concord. The Bishop Guertin Cardinals were represented by captain John McCann, David MiCali, Gabby Paquet, Jack LeVasseur, and alternate Mary Duffy. The team was coached by Lisa LaRochelle. The Concord Crimson Tide was represented by captain Conor Kilgore, Srilekha Nuli, Hannah Eliason, Rebecca Bamidele, and alternates Sangita Nuli and Sebastian Hart-Meyer. Concord High was coached by Helen Dugan. "I am very proud of the Concord High School team.” Said coach Helen Dugan. “Their efforts in the match reflected hours of practice and was truly a team effort." Bishop Guertin now advances to the second round of GRANITE STATE CHALLENGE. Hosted by Jim Jeannotte, the popular quiz contest began the season with 16 Granite State high school teamsbattling toward the coveted SUPERCHALLENGE title. Also, for a fourth year, there will be a Granite State vs. Bay State Governor's Cup match between the winners of the GRANITE STATE SUPERCHALLENGE and the WGBH Boston High School Quiz Show. New Hampshire's top high school academic teams demonstrate remarkable teamwork, quick thinking and smarts as they play GRANITE STATE CHALLENGE. The game emphasizes quick recall of math, science, social studies, language arts and fine arts facts—along with questions about current events, entertainment, sports, and New England.
