(DURHAM, September 26, 2008) - St. Thomas Aquinas High School triumphed over Lebanon High School by a score of 230 to 190, advancing them to round two of New Hampshire Public Television's Granite State Challenge. The series airs Fridays @ 6 p.m. and again Saturdays @ 8:30 a.m. Seniors Mike Myhre, Mike Tran, Julia Danford, and Gina Guadagnoli, and alternates Colleen Lenz, and Dan Covert comprised the victorious St. Thomas Aquinas Saints team, which was coached by Charles Prince. Their opponents, the Lebanon Raiders, included senior Joseph Harris, juniors Mike Nestler and Dominic Filiano, and sophomore Charles Henahan. They were coached by Lois Kerr, who has been involved with the school's Granite State Challenge team since 1984. The popular quiz contest begins with 32 Granite State high school teams battling toward the coveted SuperChallenge title. There are four single-elimination rounds leading to the final contest in May. Granite State Challenge brings New Hampshire's top high school academic teams head-to-head in spirited competition.
