MANCHESTER CENTRAL MOVES TO SEMI-FINALS OF GRANITE STATE CHALLENGE

(DURHAM, April 25, 2015 ) - In this week's GRANITE STATE CHALLENGE match, Manchester Central High School topped Plymouth Regional High School by a score of 335 to 180. The lead bobbed between the two teams in the first round, but once Manchester Central swept the 60-second round, it held on to the lead. The Plymouth Bobcats were represented by captain Andrew Chabot, Sean Harris, Isaac Lewis, and Riley Karp, and were coached by Jay Fogarty. The Manchester Little Greens were represented by captain Liam Downing, Anthony Arnieri, Elizabeth Lavoie, and Aiden Stergiou, and were coached by Lorraine Meyette. Watch the match online. "It was a tough loss," said Plymouth Regional coach Jay Fogarty, whose team won the SuperChallenge two years ago. "We had just come off the narrow win against Hanover, but we had no idea what to expect from Manchester." Manchester Central now advances to the semi-finals of GRANITE STATE CHALLENGE. The popular quiz contest began the season with 16 Granite State high school teams battling toward the coveted SUPERCHALLENGE title. Also, for a third year, there will be a Granite State vs. Bay State Governor's Cup match between the winners of the GRANITE STATE SUPERCHALLENGE and the WGBH Boston High School Quiz Show. The semi-finals kick off next week with a match between Bishop Guertin and Concord High School. Tune in Saturday, May 2 at 5:30 p.m., to see which team will have the winning combination of knowledge, teamwork and quick buzzer reaction to advance to the Granite State SuperChallenge. New Hampshire's top high school academic teams demonstrate remarkable teamwork, quick thinking and smarts as they play GRANITE STATE CHALLENGE. The game emphasizes quick recall of math, science, social studies, language arts and fine arts facts – along with questions about current events, entertainment, sports, and New England.
