PINKERTON ACADEMY WINS NH-MA GOVERNOR'S CUP MATCH

2025 TEAMS

(DURHAM, May 24, 2014) - Coming off its Granite State SuperChallenge victory last week, New Hampshire's Pinkerton Academy beat Massachusett's Acton-Boxborough High School by a score of 365-200 in the second annual NH-MA Governor's Cup Challenge. Though the lead bounced back and forth at the beginning of the match, Pinkerton pulled ahead in the bonus rounds and maintained its lead after that. "It was beyond my wildest dreams to have qualified for this game. I'm proud of my students for doing so well," noted Pinkerton coach Peter Crowell, who added that playing in New Hampshire by the Granite State Challenge rules rather than the WGBH High School Quiz Show rules was advantageous for the team. Pinkerton Academy was represented by captain Ben Foley, Sara Tridenti, Jake Hudgins and Joe Ronca, and led by coaches Peter Crowell and Pam Griswold. Acton-Boxborough High School was represented by captain Tom Russell, Victor Pavao, Spencer Thrope and Kevin Liu, and led by coaches Ronna Berman and Susan Bohmiller. Pinkerton Academy, the winner of the Granite State SuperChallenge, received $1,000, a trophy and a champion banner for their school. Bishop Guertin High School, the runner-up, received $500 and a trophy. Granite State Challenge began the season with 16 New Hampshire high school teams battling for the coveted SuperChallenge title and brainy bragging rights.
