CANDIDATES TO DEBATE AT UNH ON TUESDAY

Candidates running for New Hampshire’s first congressional district seat and for the governor’s office will defend their positions on business and economic issues Tuesday, October 1 at the University of New Hampshire in Durham. The “NH Votes 2002” candidate forums are sponsored by the University of New Hampshire’s Whittemore School of Business and Economics, New Hampshire Public Television and the Business & Industry Association of New Hampshire. Their purpose is to inform voters of the candidates’ views and positions on the most important business and economic issues facing the state and the nation. Candidates will be questioned by a panel drawn from the business and UNH communities in front of a live audience. The moderator will be Allison McNair, host of NHPTV’s nightly newsmagazine New Hampshire Outlook. The forums will take place in the Strafford Room of Memorial Union Building. Candidates for the first congressional district will debate from 4 to 5 P.M. and candidates for New Hampshire governor from 6 to 7 P.M. The congressional forum will feature Jeb Bradley (R-Wolfeboro), Martha Fuller Clark (D-Portsmouth) and Dan Belforti (L-Portsmouth). The gubernatorial forum will spotlight Mark Fernald (D-Sharon), John Babiarz (L-Grafton) and Craig Benson (R-Rye). There is no charge to attend and the events are open to the public. Audience seating in the Strafford Room begins one-half hour before each forum. Doors will close ten minutes before each event begins. Parking is available in the at the visitor’s center parking lot near the UNH field house. New Hampshire Public Television will broadcast the first congressional district forum unedited on October 8 from 7 to 8 P.M. and the gubernatorial forum on October 9.
