André Rieu Performs in Sold Out Concert in Durham

Engaging Minds | Connecting Communities | Celebrating New Hampshire

(DURHAM, May 19, 2005) – André Rieu and the Johann Strauss Orchestra performed to a sold-out arena in a special concert last night benefiting New Hampshire Public Television, the Maine Public Broadcasting Network and WGBH-Boston. The world-class Dutch composer and violin virtuoso drew New Hampshire’s largest ever gathering of public television supporters. More than 2,000 members of NHPTV—and a total of more than 4,500 public television supporters and Rieu fans—attended the concert at the University of New Hampshire Whittemore Center Arena in Durham. Attendees included a 101-year-old Hollis, NH, woman, fans who came from as far away as Ontario and Washington, D.C., as well as New Hampshire, Maine and Boston area devotees. Rieu and the Johann Strauss Orchestra are known for thrilling audiences with a festive atmosphere of light classics and Viennese salon music. The Waltz King’s musical range includes many genres and songs, from “La Vie Est Belle,” to “Danube Love,” to “The Woods of Vienna Are Calling,” “Circus Renz,” “Lara's Theme,” “Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy,” and “Bolero.” Rieu’s concerts are featured on public television stations throughout the United States, including NHPTV. The event was supported by Charter Trust Company and RiverWoods at Exeter. Beyond its award-winning local and national television programs, New Hampshire Public Television is a leader in education and community outreach. NHPTV provides instructional services for 206,000 students from kindergarten through high school; offers Ready To Learn programs and services for children preschool to age 8, parents, and early education professionals; and provides professional development programs and advanced technology training for educators in New Hampshire and neighboring states.
