Following his death, while serving in the military, she alchemized her grief to create a respite for veterans and their families. Christie Coombs' husband died in one of the planes that hit the World Trade Center on Sept. 11, 2001. She created the Jeffrey Coombs Memorial Foundation to help families who have suffered loss or tragedy. It has helped her out of the black hole of grief.
