Bow High Faces Profile High on the Next Granite State Challenge Game on NHPBS

Durham, NH (March 17, 2025) -  The Bow High Falcons meet the Patriots of Profile High in Round One of GRANITE STATE CHALLENGE. The game airs on Thursday, March 20, 2025, at 8:30 p.m. on New Hampshire PBS.

Playing for Bow High are team captain and 12th grader Thomas Sargent along with 12th grader Trevor Abel,11th grader Matthew Kropp and 12th grader Cole Cochrane. Team alternates are 12th graders Liam Miller and Jack Noce.

Asked about what part of the game they are excited about, team captain Thomas Sargent said, “We’re excited about the Sixty Second round because we get to work together as a team. And I feel confident in our abilities in the first round because that's the fun one.”

The Bow High team is coached by humanities teacher Michelle Hlavaz. Bow High made it to the final game in 2021, where they fell to Merrimack High. Bow High enrolls 625 students from Bow and Dunbarton. “Our biggest strength is just their willingness to answer questions and take a chance,” said Bow coach Hlavaz. “They don't second guess themselves too much, and we're also fairly strong in history and geography. We’re looking forward to a great match.”

Playing for Profile High are 11th grader and team captain Maddie Perkins, 12th grader Isaac Reeder and 11th graders Moses Rolfe and Raiden Valentine. Profile team alternates are 12th grader Travis Locke and 11th grader Marcus Hamilton.

Stating that her special interest is Greek mythology, Profile captain Maddie Perkins said about her team, “We have like a diverse set of interests, which is very useful going into trivia.” The last time the Profile High team played was two years ago. “I'm really excited to see how we'll fare this time because the last time we came out of the wildcard round, but it was nice to actually qualify this time,” said Maddie.

Coaching the Profile High team is school counselor Jill Brewer. Profile High made it to the final game in 1999, where they fell to Oyster River High. Profile High enrolls 141 students from Bethlehem, Easton, Franconia, and Sugar Hill.

It takes the Profile High team over two hours to travel to the New Hampshire PBS studios in Durham to play on Granite State Challenge. “We're a really small school, so we're so glad that we did well enough to qualify,” said Profile coach Jill Brewer. “We have a well-rounded team, where each of our six members brings a different area of expertise and different passions. And most importantly, they really enjoy each other's company and have fun with each other.”

The winner of the game moves on to the quarterfinals where they will meet either Bedford High or Hopkinton High in a game airing on Thursday, April 24, 2025, at 8:30 p.m. on New Hampshire PBS.
