• 1954 - The first nuclear-powered submarine, the USS Nautilus, is launched in Groton, Connecticut.
• 1977 - President Jimmy Carter pardons most Vietnam War draft dodgers.
• 1981 - Production of the iconic DeLorean sports car begins in Dunmurry, Northern Ireland, United Kingdom. Four years later, in 1985,  Doc Brown would retrofit it to travel back to the future.
