Mascoma Valley Regional High Takes On Portsmouth High

Granite State Challenge - Round One

(DURHAM, March 3, 2022)  - Tune in on Saturday, March 5 at 6 pm on NHPBS for the fifth match in the 40th season of Granite State Challenge. 

The fifth game of the season matches Mascoma Valley Regional High and Portsmouth High. Playing for Mascoma are captain and senior Colin, senior Nick, junior Logan, and freshman Syd.  The team alternates are juniors Gage and Liam. The team is coached by John Sweetland.  Mascoma Valley Regional High is located in Canaan and serves the towns of Grafton, Enfield, Orange, Canaan, and Dorchester. The school enrolls 326 students.

Playing for Portsmouth High are captain and senior Francis Powell, seniors Rio Marcus, and Karina Havaleshko, and junior Nick Dahlen. Portsmouth High is coached by Hannah Dul and enrolls 1,084 students from Rye, Newcastle, Newington, Greenland, and Portsmouth.

Granite State Challenge features New Hampshire's top high school academic quiz teams as they demonstrate remarkable teamwork, quick thinking, and smarts to beat the clock and buzz in first on this iconic New Hampshire game show. The game emphasizes quick recall of math, science, social studies, language arts, and fine arts facts - along with questions about current events, entertainment, sports, and New Hampshire.
