1733 - American general in the Revolutionary War and a United States Senator from New York, Philip Schuyler, was born on this date in 1733. Hi daughter, Elizabeth, married Alexander Hamilton.
1776 - British forces land at the Palisades and then attack Fort Lee. The Continental Army starts to retreat across New Jersey.
1789 - New Jersey becomes the first U.S. state to ratify the Bill of Rights.
