Today is National Good Neighbor Day, International Right To Know Day, World Rabies Day, and  National Strawberry Cream Pie Day.

ON THIS DATE

  • 1066 - William the Conqueror lands in England, beginning the Norman conquest.
  • 1781 - U.S. troops, backed by the French fleet begin the siege of Yorktown.
  • 1919 - Race riots begin in Omaha, Nebraska.
  • 1928 - Alexander Fleming notes a bacteria-killing mold growing in his laboratory. That mold was penicillin.
  • 1941 - Ted Williams ends the baseball season with a  .406 batting average, a record that still stands. (American Masters - Ted Williams - Passport Members)
