GRANITE STATE CHALLENGE Returns for 33rd Season; Plymouth Regional Tops Farmington High in Opening

(DURHAM, February 4, 2017) - The 33rd season of GRANITE STATE CHALLENGE opened with an impressive win by Plymouth Regional High School over Farmington High School as the Bobcats beat the Tigers by a score of 590 to 310. The Plymouth Bobcats were represented by captain Richard Lyons, Ian Desmarais, Jack Friedman, Sean Harris and alternates Peter Templeton and Martin Runquist, and were coached by Jay Fogarty and Troy Harris. The Farmington Tigers were represented by captain Josh Howard, Samantha Lagle, Tessa Baillargeon, Jason Rhines and alternate Brooke Marston, and were coached by Harold Long. Watch this and all the matches online >> “The Granite State Challenge experience is the highlight of the season for me as a coach,” said Plymouth coach Jay Fogarty. “It is eye opening to go behind the scenes during the tapings and see everything that is involved in making it happen.” Plymouth now advances to the second round of GRANITE STATE CHALLENGE. Hosted by Jim Jeannotte, the popular quiz contest began the season with 16 Granite State high school teams battling toward the coveted SUPERCHALLENGE title. Also, for a fifth year, there will be a Granite State vs. Bay State Governor's Cup match between the winners of the GRANITE STATE SUPERCHALLENGE and the WGBH Boston High School Quiz Show. New Hampshire's top high school academic teams demonstrate remarkable teamwork, quick thinking and smarts as they play GRANITE STATE CHALLENGE. The game emphasizes quick recall of math, science, social studies, language arts and fine arts facts—along with questions about current events, entertainment, sports, and New England.
