PINKERTON ACADEMY TOPS HANOVER HIGH SCHOOL IN GSC

(DURHAM, March 8, 2014) - Pinkerton Academy and Hanover High School were neck and neck for most of this week's heated GRANITE STATE CHALLENGE match. Their scores were within 20 points of the other until the final minutes of the game when Pinkerton Academy dug deep and answered back-to-back questions correctly to attain the 250 - 180 victory. "Hanover is a perennial powerhouse. We were fortunate to come out on top," noted Pinkerton Academy coach Peter Crowell. Hanover High School was represented by Captain Miles Campbell, Tobias Reynolds, Raj Kane, and Garrett Ruley and coached by Bill Murphy. Pinkerton Academy was represented by Captain Ben Foley, Sara Tridenti, Jake Hudgins, and Joe Ronca and coached by Peter Crowell. The popular quiz contest began the season with 16 Granite State high school teams battling for the coveted SuperChallenge title and brainy bragging rights. It takes a winning combination of knowledge, teamwork, grace under pressure, and a quick buzzer reflex to play Granite State Challenge. The show brings New Hampshire's top high school academic teams head-to-head in lively competition. The game emphasizes quick recall of material in all major disciplines - math, science, social studies, language and fine arts - along with a mix of questions about current events, entertainment, sports, and regional topics. Host Jim Jeannotte poses the Challenge questions to the teams; Lori Warriner interviews team members. The winner of the Granite State SuperChallenge receives $1,000, a trophy and a champion banner for their school; the runner-up school receives $500 and a trophy. The SuperChallenge winner will compete for the Governor's Cup against the winner of the WGBH Boston High School Quiz Show at the end of the season.
