Merrimack HS Defeats Goffstown HS in Round One of Granite State Challenge

2025 TEAMS

(DURHAM, September 19, 2008) - Merrimack High School dominated the first match of Granite State Challenge's 26th season, defeating Goffstown High School by a score of 245 to 120. Granite State Challenge airs Fridays @ 6 p.m., and again Saturdays @ 8:30 a.m. on New Hampshire Public Television. Seniors Meghna Chandra, Carolyn Chakuroff, and Siddharth Soundararjan, junior Ross Johnson, and alternates Dan Chick, and Jeremy King, comprised the victorious Merrimack Tomahawk team, which was coached by Susan Ruggeri. Their opponents, the Goffstown Grizzlies, included seniors Brendan Bertagnoll, Lindsey Wiggin, Eric Moran, and Nicholas Aubut, and alternates Julia Rosen and Mitchel Entrekin. They were coached by Granite State Challenge alum Keith Martin ('90). The popular quiz contest begins with 32 Granite State high school teams battling toward the coveted SuperChallenge title. There are four single-elimination rounds leading to the final contest in May. Granite State Challenge brings New Hampshire's top high school academic teams head-to-head in spirited competition. Long-time host Jim Jeannotte asks the Challenge questions to the teams; co-host Tim Estiloz interviews team members prior to the game.
