Bow High Defeats Fall Mountain Regional High

Granite State Challenge - Round One

(DURHAM, March 28, 2020) –The Bow High Falcons and the Wildcats of Fall Mountain Regional High met in the final round-one game of Granite State Challenge.

The Falcons of Bow High were represented by captain Captain Justin Murphy, Aaron Burkett, Madeline Lessard, and Colin Bayer along with alternates Connor Griffin and Jacob McDaniel. The team was coached by Michelle Hlavaz. Bow High is located in Merrimack Country and has an enrollment of around 625 students.

Playing for the Fall Mountain Regional High Wildcats were captain Morgan Snelling, Brendan Regean, Jake Bradley, Gabrielle Klema joined by alternates Marcus Flynn and Isabell Bushway. The team was coached by Nick Belsky. Fall Mountain Regional High is located in Langdon in Sullivan County. It enrolls around 465 students and serves the towns of Langdon, Acworth, Alstead, Charlestown, and Walpole.

At the end of Round One, Fall Mountain had a slim 10 point lead, ending the round by a score of 50-40. Both teams missed a video question from New Hampshire author ad illustrator about the year the hurricane known as the Long Island Express hit New Hampshire.

Round tow started with the Unitil Power Question with 40 points. Neither team was able to name the one other state beside Mississippi with four "S's" Bow found its rhythm and at the end of the round had a comfortable lead of 260-130.

Moving into the 60-second round, the alternates joined their teammates. Fall Mountain chose the category "It's Good to Be the King" and correctly gave six out of ten answers that included the word "king." Bo High chose the category "Blowing in the Wind" and correctly identified gave the answers of eight out of ten questions that included the word "wind." At the end of the 60-second round, Bow had a lead of 340-190.

In the final round, correct answers are worth 20 points, but an incorrect answer will cost a team to lose 20 points. Bow played an aggressive round and ended up winning the game by a score of 460-290.

If you are wondering about the answers to the two video question both teams missed - the Long Island Express hit New England in 1938 and the other state with four "S's" is Massachusetts.

Bow High now goes on to face Exeter High in the quarterfinals.
