Portsmouth Christian Academy at Dover Defeats Dover High on Granite State Challenge

(DURHAM, February 18, 2017) – In this week’s Granite State Challenge, Portsmouth Christian Academy defeated Dover High School by a score of 660 to 290. Portsmouth Christian established an early lead in round one and hung on to it throughout the game. Portsmouth Christina Academy Coach Donna Capern was pleased with her team’s win, “Our team has worked hard to prepare, so it was great to see their efforts rewarded in this game, even with such a worthy competitor.”

The Portsmouth Christian Eagles were represented by captain Riley Sipp, David Harju, Ben Abraham, Joseph Stevens and alternates Natalie Rinehart and Emilee LaRose, and were coached by Donna Capern, Raymond Gamble, and Eric Savage. Captain Bryan Woolley, Alex Breen, Yosha Siagian, and Chris Mudrick and alternate Aidan Mattingly played for the Dover Green Wave .

The team was coached by Eric Salmonsen. Portsmouth Christian now advances to the second round of GRANITE STATE CHALLENGE. Hosted by Jim Jeannotte, the popular quiz contest began the season with 16 Granite State high school teams battling toward the coveted SUPERCHALLENGE title. Also, for a fourth year, there will be a Granite State vs. Bay State Governor's Cup match between the winners of the GRANITE STATE SUPERCHALLENGE and the WGBH Boston High School Quiz Show. New Hampshire's top high school academic teams demonstrate remarkable teamwork, quick thinking and smarts as they play GRANITE STATE CHALLENGE.

The game emphasizes quick recall of math, science, social studies, language arts and fine arts facts—along with questions about current events, entertainment, sports, and New England.
