GRANITE STATE CHALLENGE RETURNS FOR 32ND SEASON; NASHUA SOUTH TOPS JOHN STARK IN OPENING MATCH

(DURHAM, February 6, 2016) - The 32nd season of GRANITE STATE CHALLENGE opened with an impressive win by Nashua High School South over John Stark Regional High School. Nashua South took an early lead and went on to dominate each round; the final score was 740 to 220. The John Stark Generals were represented by captain Brandon Loiselle, Elias Tyrrel-Walker, Andrew Porter, and Ben Trumble, and were coached by Jill Pinard and Phil Matzke. The Nashua South Panthers were represented by captain Dody Eid, Noah Telerski, Sam McIntyre, and Nisha Devasia, and were coached by Neil Claffey, Catherine Poulin and Greg Montine. "But we were very fortunate to have four of our players return for this season, and they played a smooth game." Nashua South now advances to the second round of GRANITE STATE CHALLENGE. Hosted by Jim Jeannotte, the popular quiz contest began the season with 16 Granite State high school teams battling toward the coveted SUPERCHALLENGE title. Also, for a fourth year, there will be a Granite State vs. Bay State Governor's Cup match between the winners of the GRANITE STATE SUPERCHALLENGE and the WGBH Boston High School Quiz Show. New Hampshire's top high school academic teams demonstrate remarkable teamwork, quick thinking and smarts as they play GRANITE STATE CHALLENGE. The game emphasizes quick recall of math, science, social studies, language arts and fine arts facts—along with questions about current events, entertainment, sports, and New England.
