Durham, NH—January 5, 2022—Nobody wants to think about growing older, but Cathleen Toomey wants us to get smarter about aging. For the past 14 years, Toomey has been Vice President of Marketing for the RiverWoods Group, a family of not-for-profit Continuing Care Retirement Communities (CCRCs) in New Hampshire. Toomey knows firsthand that the key to aging well is good information.
“You can blame it on a cocktail party”, says Toomey. “Because I live in a small town (Exeter) and have worked for RiverWoods for many years, people would come to me with questions about aging.”
In the past few years, the volume of questions she has had — not just about CCRCs, but about all aspects of aging — has increased. This mirrors the national perspective, where today, in the US, 10,000 people a day are turning 70, a trend that will continue for the next 15 years of baby boomers aging into retirement.
All the questions Toomey was getting prompted her to launch a podcast in April 2021, called SENIORITY AUTHORITY, to help people “get smarter about growing older”. The SENIORITY AUTHORITY podcasts are in-depth conversations with experts covering topics from dementia to downsizing, fitness to finance, and more.
The podcast caught the imagination of Dawn DeAngelis, Vice President and Chief Content Officer at NHPBS, who approached Toomey with the idea of partnering with video content. “This content is exactly what our viewers are interested in,” said DeAngelis.
New Hampshire PBS and the RiverWoods Group joined forces to bring Toomey’s relatable and practical wisdom to viewers in a series of short videos. The SENORITY AUTHORITY videos dive into some of the most pressing questions about aging.
SENIORITY AUTHORITY videos will be released twice a month on New Hampshire PBS beginning January 6, and on the website. For more information on aging, and a chance to win some fun prizes, visit www.NHPBS.org/seniorityauthority.
