Windsor Castle is a fortress, built more than 900 years ago to house an army as well as the court. Edward III, obsessed with tales of Camelot, guided the reconstruction. The work of building the structure was made difficult in the wake of the bubonic plague, which had wiped out a third of the population, but the result is a building of mythic strength.
