Homegrown History

HOMEGROWN HISTORY draws on community submissions from across North Carolina to tell eight incredible stories of the American Revolution and how they helped to shape the nation we know today. Using scripted narration, voices of present-day descendants, archival records and contemporary scenes to bring local stories to life, episodes reveal how lesser-known histories played an outsized role in creating the communities we call home. By celebrating these rich, local stories, HOMEGROWN HISTORY invites viewers to consider that the next chapter of American history will be written by each of us in our own communities and by our collective contributions to society.

A Freedom-Loving People NH World (11.3) Working with members of the Lumbee and Sappony Tribes, we uncover two extraordinary stories: the recently discovered account of a chief, Captain Sweat, and his horsemen; and a warrior who survived Valley Forge, helped free a nation and helped build an enduring Native American community in North Carolina.
