More than 11,000 students in grades K-12 from 72 schools voted on February 2, 2016.Democrat Bernie Sanders tallied 64% (3,589) of the votes for his party, and Hillary Clinton came in with half the number of his votes (1,813), or 32%.For the Republicans, Donald Trump garnered 37.5% of the votes (2,150), followed by Marco Rubio at 14% (823 votes) and a third-place tie between Jeb Bush and Ted Cruz (12.98%, or 743 votes each). Students from across the state prepared for this historic primary mock election by researching candidates and learning more about the issues facing our state and the country. “The New Hampshire Primary Mock Election is an opportunity for students to learn about the electoral process firsthand,” notes Susan Adams, New Hampshire Public Television’s manager of educational services. “In order to continue this tradition, our children need to understand the vital role New Hampshire plays every four years when it holds the First in the Nation presidential primary.”
