NHPTV OFFERS SHARE A STORY COMMUNITY FAMILY LITERACY NIGHT

(DURHAM, March 31, 2004) Storyteller, author, musician and juggler Michael Parent will be featured during a Share a Story Night at the Gorham Public Library in Gorham on Friday, April 9 from 5-7 p.m. New Hampshire Public Television’s Ready To Learn service and the North Country Literacy Collaborative are co-sponsoring the event.Maine native Parent draws upon his Franco-American heritage in performing a unique blend of stories and songs in both French and English. While the target age for the Share a Story Night is ages 4 - 8, all are welcome. In addition to storyteller Parent, there will be free books and handouts for children and parents, hands-on activities and pizza.Share a Story Night is part of the national PBS KIDS Share a Story initiative, a national literacy campaign designed to inspire adults to help millions of children develop language and literacy skills through daily activities, including singing, rhyming, conversing, reading aloud, performing, drawing and writing. Laura Bush serves as Honorary National Chair of the campaign. Actor and literacy advocate LeVar Burton is National Chairman.
