NH Outlook Launches "Voter Journals" Project

DURHAM, October 22, 2004) – NH Outlook, New Hampshire Public Television’s award-winning nightly newsmagazine, has launched a “Voter Journals” project, using six voters from around the state as bellwethers on election issues and the candidates. As the home of the First in the Nation primary and a battleground state for four electoral college votes, New Hampshire has seen the candidates and their families, government officials and celebrities many times in the past year. NH Outlook is offering a group of Granite State voters the opportunity to use video cameras and Web cameras to record their impressions and views, which are then aired on NH Outlook and posted online. One of the participants described the experience as an “electronic town meeting.” Producers believe the use of the video cameras will be valuable beyond the election in enabling the public to express its views on other issues.Participants from around the state include: Tom and Nancy Donnelly, married retirees from New London; Thomas DeRosa, a student at Saint Anselm College in Manchester; Mark Timney, a Keene State college professor from Harrisville; Jodi Kravitz, a teacher from Hampton; Sarah Zuccarelli, a botanist from Center Sandwich; and Mark Kelley, a Berlin business owner. Between now and the November election, these voters are weighing-in on what they consider to be the top issues, including health care policy and the Granite State's education funding challenge. Viewers are invited to watch the Voter Journals segments on the broadcast of NH Outlook or from a video blog site (http://nhpr.org/blogs/nhptv/).
