"Wildlife Journal Jr Curriculum" for NH Educators to be Unveiled January 27 in Durham

(Durham, January 19, 2005) — Wildlife Journal, Jr., an exciting new educational curriculum for grades 4-8, will debut Thursday, January 27 at the New Hampshire Public Television Knowledge Network Teacher Day at the Broadcast Center in Durham. Based on Wildlife Journal, the award-winning series co-produced by NHPTV and the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department, Wildlife Journal, Jr. will help teachers and students explore and appreciate the wonders of our natural world.Using segments from Wildlife Journal, New Hampshire educators are working with NHPTV Knowledge Network and N.H. Fish and Game professionals to build 10 cross-curricular units of study that explore the impact nature has on people and people have on nature. The units will cover topics such as the Karner Blue Butterfly, moose herds; seabirds, and lobster conservation. The first segment on the Karner Blue Butterfly will be released during the NHPTV Knowledge Network Teacher Day January 27. Other segments will be available in the spring.The Wildlife Journal, Jr. curriculum is aligned with the New Hampshire Frameworks in Science, and will be presented on the NHPTV Knowledge Network Web site. The Web site will include video clips, teacher guides and instruction plans, suggestions for hands-on activities and projects, as well as other resources and Web links. There are an estimated 15,000 New Hampshire students in grades 4 - 8.The NHPTV Knowledge Network Teacher Day is open to teachers who wish to learn more about NHPTV’s education resources, explore the latest instructional television programs, and gain insight into the next evolution of educational services from the Knowledge Network. NHPTV’s Wildlife Journal series is in its third season. The program features wildlife that most of us never see; introduces wildlife researchers and outdoor enthusiasts; and transports viewers to remote destinations in the Granite State.
