NHPTV Wins National Awards for Programming and 2 Website Awards

(DURHAM, March 18, 2005) – New Hampshire Public Television recently was awarded 11 Telly Awards, a Cine award and two NH.com awards for excellence. NH Outlook won one silver and three bronze Telly Awards, and Wildlife Journal won a silver Telly and five bronze finalist awards for excellence in non-network television programming.NHPTV also won a CINE Golden Eagle Award for Golden: The Hobey Baker Story (Paul Lally, producer; Ron Goodwin, editor; Jonathon Millman, videographer; Linda Howe, senior producer). Golden tells the story of the man who was the embodiment of excellence and sportsmanship, and the namesake of the trophy awarded to America’s top collegiate hockey player each year. CINE recognizes the highest quality of non-theatrical film and video production nationally.Additionally, New Hampshire Public Television was named the first place winner for Best Media Site in the NH.com Seventh Annual New Hampshire Internet Awards competition. It also won third place in the Webster Public Service Award category. More than 200 sites were nominated in 22 categories for the awards, which recognize design, programming and creativity.26th Annual Telly AwardsWINNER, News or News Feature:NH Outlook: Maya Mural (Chip Neal, producer)University of New Hampshire Professor William Saturno discovered one of only two great Maya murals ever found and by far the earliest in such exquisite condition. Chip Neal interviewed Saturno and was impressed by his “enormous passion for archaeology and ability to tell a compelling story about finding the mural by chance amid the ruins.”WINNER, Entertainment:Wildlife Journal: Alpine Gardens (Steve Giordani, video producer) Most people think of Mount Washington as an inhospitable, fierce weather place. But in the summertime above the treeline, gorgeous alpine wildflowers can be found. Videographer Steve Giordani grew up hiking in the White Mountains and once worked as a steam locomotive engineer on the Mt. Washington Cog Railway. “I’ve always been amazed at how flowers that appear as fragile as rice paper can grow in some of the world's worst weather,” Giordani said.FINALISTS:NH Outlook (Dawn DeAngelis, executive producer). NH Outlook, a nightly newsmagazine airing weeknights at 10 p.m., is dedicated to timely, in-depth discussion and analysis of local issues and current events. Wildlife Journal is a co-production of NHPTV and the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department. The series explores New Hampshire’s outdoor recreation opportunities, its wildlife resources and the people who manage and conserve them.
