Financial Literacy is Subject of "NH Outlook"

(Durham, April 8, 2005) – Making sense of our personal finances is a daunting task to many of us. To assist people of all ages and income levels in establishing and maintaining financial security, New Hampshire Public Television is creating an ongoing series called Outlook on Money. The special project was launched through the assistance of a $50,000 grant from Citizens Bank Foundation.“Outlook on Money” will air on NHPTV’s award winning nightly program, NH Outlook, appearing weeknights at 10 p.m. Beyond the series of special stories for broadcast, there are also plans for distribution and educational outreach to schools, libraries, and community groups. The content of the series was shaped with input from twenty economic assistance and guidance organizations in the state, among them NH Jump$tart Coalition, Fannie CLAC and UNH Cooperative Extension.“The concept for the project arose from a conversation we were having with representatives at Citizens Bank,” noted Peter Frid, General Manager and CEO of NH Public Television. “We realized that the need for financial management skills was widespread. We began to think about how NH Public Television could meet this critical need in our state. We are grateful to Citizens Bank Foundation for being our founding contributor for this project.”“Citizens Bank Foundation is pleased to join New Hampshire Public Television in presenting this unique series,” said Tom Metzger, president and CEO of Citizens Bank. “We believe this series will provide residents with tools to make informed decisions that will help them reach their personal financial goals.”When Outlook on Money launches Monday, April 11, the focus will be managing credit card debt. A young college student who paid off more than $6,500 discusses how she got in and out of debt. Throughout the series, NH Outlook host Beth Carroll will introduce us to people who've faced financial challenges head-on and are succeeding. Whether it's learning to live on a budget, or teaching children to spend and save wisely, or planning for college and retirement, “Outlook on Money” will offer advice from experts around the state.NH Outlook is dedicated to statewide coverage of the people, places, politics, communities and culture that make the Granite State special. NH Outlook airs weeknights at 10 p.m., and again at 1 a.m. and 6:30 a.m. The financial literacy segments will be available for viewing on the nhptv.org Web site, along with interactive and other resources
