NHPTV Website and 2 NHPTV Staff Recognized

(DURHAM, March 27, 2006) - New Hampshire Public Television’s website www.nhptv.org and two NHPTV staff members were recently recognized for the following:NHPTV’s website www.nhptv.org received second place in the Best Media Site category and third place in Best Site for Kids category at the recent New Hampshire Internet Awards. The annual competition, created and hosted by NH.com, recognizes online excellence in New Hampshire. This year, 307 sites were nominated in 22 categories.Phil Vaughn, a NH Outlook and Wildlife Journal producer, was selected to be one of 30 print, broadcast and online journalists to participate in the Casey Journalism Center’s national conference at the University of Maryland. Conference participants examined the challenges facing today's diverse families and explored ways journalists tell stories with issues of class, race, economics and culture. Kim Piela, also a NH Outlook producer, was recently accepted into the Corporation for Public Broadcasting and WETA (Public Broadcasting for Greater Washington) News Producers’ Academy. The WETA News Academy is an intensive, residential six-day course that offers experience in the practical and technical capabilities of contemporary local, national and global newsgathering. NHPTV’s website, www.nhptv.org, offers up-to-date program schedule information and news about NHPTV events and services. It features the Knowledge Network’s educational and professional development resources for teachers, parents, childcare providers and students in pre-school - grade 12, as well as community outreach resources. Streaming video of archived NH Outlook programs and UNH men’s ice hockey games also are available from the site. NH Outlook, NHPTV’s award-winning nightly newsmagazine, is dedicated to statewide coverage of the people, places, politics, communities and culture that make the Granite State special. NH Outlook airs weeknights @ 7:30 p.m., and again at 11:30 p.m., 1 a.m. and 6 a.m. NH Outlook programs are also available for viewing online at www.nhptv.org/outlook.Wildlife Journal, co-produced by NHPTV and the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department, airs Thursdays @ 9 p.m. and again Fridays @ noon. The award-winning series explores New Hampshire's abundant outdoor recreation opportunities, its wildlife resources and the people who manage and conserve them. It also showcases the flora and fauna that make the region a natural treasure.
