NHPTV to Air Series of Interviews with Presidential Candidates

(DURHAM, April 24, 2007) - A weekly television series featuring the major 2008 presidential candidates will air on New Hampshire Public Television's NH OUTLOOK public affairs program, beginning in September. The Initiative for Corporate Responsibility and Investor Protection and NHPTV are collaborating on the series, which will focus on issues relating to corporate governance, business ethics, and investor protection."More Than Money: Myron Kandel and the Presidential Candidates," will spotlight individual candidates in half-hour conversations with Initiative President Myron Kandel, the founding financial editor for CNN and an economic commentator for the network for 25 years. The interviews will be taped live on New Hampshire college and university campuses and will air on NHPTV as NH OUTLOOK specials beginning in September, prior to the state's first in the nation presidential primary. In addition, these programs will be available for viewing online as webcasts."America's financial institutions have gone through turbulent times in recent years as a result of some egregious corporate behavior. We hope to make these issues national priorities and get them on the presidential agenda," Kandel notes. "The one-on-one interviews will allow the candidates to engage in a thoughtful and substantive dialogue." "NHPTV is very pleased to partner with the Initiative on this important series of programs," said NHPTV CEO and General Manager Peter A. Frid. "By broadcasting these interviews and also making them available as webcasts, voters will have additional insight into candidates' positions, especially their economic policies." The Initiative, which is associated with the New Hampshire College and University Council (a consortium of the state's institutions of higher learning), was established as a result of a settlement negotiated by the New Hampshire Bureau of Securities Regulation. "More Than Money: Myron Kandel and the Presidential Candidates" has also received funding from the Investor Protection Trust (IPT), a Washington-based group dedicated to providing independent, objective information needed by consumers to make informed investment decisions. The Initiative sponsors corporate responsibility "More Than Money" conversations and forums around the state. A forum on how the media views corporate responsibility was held April 20 at Franklin Pierce College in Rindge; it will air on NHPTV and be available for viewing online at www.theinitiative.net. Participants included Martin Baron, editor of The Boston Globe; Carol Loomis, editor-at-large of Fortune magazine; Paul Steiger, managing editor of The Wall Street Journal; and Initiative President Myron Kandel. John Bogle, founder of The Vanguard Group and investor advocate, was Kandel's guest for the first "More Than Money" program in November 2006. The Initiative also sponsored two public forums: one featured former U.S. Attorney General Dick Thornburgh; former SEC Chairman Harvey Pitt; and retired federal judge and former SEC head of enforcement Stanley Sporkin. The second forum was a discussion with three former U.S. ambassadors who were serving abroad as the corporate and Wall Street scandals were unfolding.
