GREAT BIG SEA Storms onto New Hampshire Public Television

Courage & Patience & Grit Concert to Air September 17th @ 8 p.m.

(DURHAM, September 10, 2008) – Music is about celebrating and a concert is about making it a great night for the audience – that’s the philosophy of the Great Big Sea, the popular Celtic folk-rock group whose most recent concert Courage & Patience & Grit airs Wednesday, September 17th @ 8 p.m. on New Hampshire Public Television.Their infectious Celtic folk-rock style of music has attracted thousands of fans, including Marjorie Wolfson of Durham. “We discovered Great Big Sea nine years ago at a summer music festival in Quebec City and fell in love instantly. You feel like you’re part of something special when you see them in concert,” enthused Wolfson, who stopped by the New Hampshire Public Television Broadcast Center recently to meet two of the band members who were in Durham to promote their first concert appearance on NHPTV.Born on the unforgiving streets of St. John’s, Newfoundland, the Great Big Sea-men have travelled the world while wearing their hometown on their sleeves. “Our music is of Newfoundland,” explains band member Sean McCann. “Our songs come from the sea and the cliffs and the rocks and all the other natural beauties our country provides. Without her we simply couldn’t exist.” Their 9th and most recent album, Fortunes Favour, exemplifies the band’s distinctive fusion of traditional Newfoundland music and their own brand of pop. Tune in Wednesday, September 17th @ 8 p.m. for tickets to the Great Big Sea’s nearly sold-out concert at the Merrill Auditorium in Portland, ME on November 1st.
