Feeding Kids Focus of NH OUTLOOK "LiveFIT NH" Special

Airing on NHPTV 12/14 @ 9:30 a.m.

(DURHAM, December 9, 2008) — From finicky eaters to food allergies, feeding children can be challenging and expensive. Find out how to eat well on a budget and raise healthy eaters with tips from registered dietician Eileen Behan, author of The Baby Bible, on the next “LiveFIT NH” NH OUTLOOK special, Sunday, December 14th @ 9:30 a.m. and Monday, December 15th @ 6 p.m. With three children under the age of four to feed, dinner at the Franas’ home is always lively. The parents of twin boys and a girl, Heather and Jeff Franas invite Behan for dinner and ask for tips about how to foster an appetite for a variety of healthy foods, and how to avoid eating and shopping pitfalls. Also, NH OUTLOOK host Beth Carroll and a nutritionist from the University of New Hampshire challenge a group of eighth-graders from a life skills class at Oyster River Middle School to come up with a healthy and palatable dinner on a budget. The winning entrée will tempt even the pickiest teenagers.Another segment of the program looks at food allergies, which affect an estimated 4% of all children, and can have severe consequences. NH OUTLOOK’s Richard Ager speaks with Tamara Leibowitz from the Seacoast Food Allergy Group about how food allergies are being treated today, and goes shopping with a family to better understand how they deal with their child’s allergies. NH Outlook, NHPTV’s award-winning public affairs program, is all about New Hampshire. It’s dedicated to statewide coverage of the people, places, politics and culture that make the Granite State special. NH Outlook airs Sundays at 9:30 a.m. and again Mondays at 6 p.m. NH Outlook programs are also available for viewing online at www.nhptv.org/outlook, along with other specials like the “Politics and Eggs” series, NH Education Adequacy forums, and UNH NH Authors’ Series.Working with partner organizations statewide, LiveFIT NH (www.nhptv.org/livefitnh) is NHPTV’s community engagement initiative that encourages healthy eating and physical activity in children and adults. Through a multi-part series on NHPTV’s NH Outlook program, a “LiveFIT NH Challenge,” “FitTips,” and other education and outreach activities and resources, the project demonstrates that Living Fit is for EveryBody.Workshops held around the state by NHPTV’s Ready To Learn program provide information on nutrition, exercise, and fun activities for children, educators, parents and caregivers. The LiveFIT NH initiative is generously funded by the Hilda & Preston Davis Foundation, Byrne Foundation, Baldwin Foundation, and Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield.
