NHPTV, WMUR-TV and Metrocast Educate Residents About Digital Broadcast Transition

WHAT: WMUR-TV, New Hampshire Public Television and Metrocast will host a free information session on Thursday, January 15 at 6:30 PM at the Laconia Public Library to discuss the change in the way television viewers will receive over-the-air (broadcast) TV signals beginning February 17, 2009. Attendees will have an opportunity to learn about the federally mandated digital broadcast transition and how it may affect them. This event will happen just one day before WMUR and NHPTV conduct a simulated shutdown of their analog TV signals in a special half-hour program “The Analog TV Shutdown Test” airing Friday January 16 at 5:30pm simulcast on both stations. Those whose TVs are not yet equipped to receive digital signals or connected to cable or satellite service have three options to get ready: (1) replace older TVs with newer TVs equipped with digital tuners; (2) purchase and install a converter box that will allow their current antennas to receive the new digital broadcast signals; or (3) subscribe to a cable or satellite service.
