NHPTV received a first place award for Documentary News for its Making $ense: The Economy and Northern New England special, produced with Maine and Vermont public television. Program segments included time banks that allow people to trade services; mortgage deferments, and SCORE, a program for mentoring small business owners. (Phil Vaughn, producer; Steve Giordani, videographer; Rebecca Reilly, editor)NH Outlook, NHPTV’s weekly public affairs program, received a Documentary Story merit award for Including Samuel, which followed the broadcast of the “Including Samuel” documentary by NH photojournalist and filmmaker Dan Habib. The documentary chronicles the Habib family's efforts to include Samuel, who has cerebral palsy, in every facet of their lives. Producer Richard Ager talked to the Habibs and attended a public school screening of the film where students talked about their perception of disabilities. In it, host Willem Lange hand-glides on thermals to demonstrate the science of flight for hawks and other soaring birds.
