DURHAM, June 2, 2006) — Manchester West High School ran away with the coveted Granite State SuperChallenge title—and bragging rights as the best academic high school team in the state—during last night’s 23rd Granite State SuperChallenge on New Hampshire Public Television. After several intense rounds of questions, Manchester West High School emerged victorious over Winnacunnet Regional High School with a final score of 330-160.Seniors Kristie Michaud and Ashley Cowall and juniors Zach Blatt and Richard (RJ) Walsh represented the Manchester West Blue Knights. They were coached by Mary-Ellen Russell and Robert Reisman. Competing for Winnacunnet Regional were seniors Marie Cushing and Zachary Coburn and juniors Victoria Mason and Meagan Munch. Kevin Fleming and Lisa McManus coached the team.The season began in September, with 32 New Hampshire high school teams competing. Four rounds narrowed the field to the final two teams. Manchester West entered their first-ever final match with impressive wins this season. On the road to the championship, the Blue Knights defeated Nashua High School North (280-140), Salem High School (255-170), Lin-Wood Public High School (235-170) and St. Thomas Aquinas High School (300-250). The Winnacunnet Regional team defeated Dover High School (240-225), Merrimack Valley High School (205-90), Spaulding High School (235-205) and Oyster River High School (225-215).
