NHPTV - PBS KIDS GO! Writers Contest Story Entries Deadline March 24th

(Durham, March 15, 2010) – Kids, you still have time to get out paper, paints and pencils, and create and illustrate a story for the PBS KIDS GO! Writers Contest ! Children in kindergarten through fifth grade are invited to enter the PBS KIDS GO! Writers Contest, sponsored by New Hampshire Public Television. The deadline for entries is March 24, 2010. The PBS KIDS GO! Writers Contest promotes the advancement of children’s reading skills through hands-on, active learning and celebrates the power of creating original illustrated stories. Applications and information about the contest are at nhptv.org/kidswrite.Children who enter the contest will receive a Certificate of Achievement. A panel of judges will review entries in April, and first-, second- and third-place winners will be selected in each grade level, and their stories will be presented on NHPTV’s website. Local first place winners in grades K-3 advance to the national competition. NH children’s book author and illustrator Marty Kelley will speak at the PBS KIDS GO! Writers awards ceremony in June at the NHPTV Broadcasting Center in Durham.The PBS KIDS GO! Writers Contest extends the success of the long-popular national Reading Rainbow Young Writers and Illustrators Contest, which ended last year. Guidelines for participation in the PBS KIDS GO! Writers Contest are similar to those of the Reading Rainbow contest.PBS KIDS GO! Writers Contest is made possible with support from NEA New Hampshire. The PBS KIDS GO! Writers Contest is produced by WNED-TV, Buffalo/Toronto and PBS, and is part of PBS KIDS Raising Readers, a national initiative which uses the power of public media to build the reading skills of children ages 2-to-8, with an emphasis on children from low-income families. The effort is funded by a Ready To Learn grant from the U.S. Department of Education, part of a cooperative agreement with the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB), PBS and The Ready To Learn Partnership.
