NHPTV engineers climbed the same tower March 1st, battling 60 mph wind gusts, to remove ice from NHPTV’s dishes and bring the station’s Keene and Littleton transmitters back online. (Photo courtesy of NH State Police.)------------------------------------Transmission outages due to weather are an uncontrollable occurrence, particularly with microwave signals that cover long distances, such as those used by the New Hampshire State Police and New Hampshire Public Television. Both NHPTV and the NH State Police have seen more and lengthier outages this year due to changing weather patterns. Friday’s high winds and snow caused outages at both of NHPTV’s Keene and Littleton transmitters.“NHPTV is one of several state partners submitting a multi-million dollar broadband stimulus grant application,” noted NHPTV Chief Technology Officer Brian Shepperd. “If the state receives this grant, it will make New Hampshire’s public safety communications, broadband infrastructure and NHPTV transmissions significantly more robust and reliable.”
