(Durham, January 26, 2010) – Kids, grab your pencils, crayons, markers, and paints! New Hampshire Public Television is waiting for your best, original, illustrated stories! Children in grades kindergarten through fifth grade are invited to enter the PBS KIDS GO! Writers Contest, sponsored by New Hampshire Public Television; the deadline for entries is March 24, 2010. The PBS KIDS GO! Writers Contest promotes the advancement of children’s reading skills through hands-on, active learning and celebrates the power of creating original illustrated stories. Children who enter the contest will receive a Certificate of Achievement. A panel of judges will review entries in April, and first-, second- and third-place winners will be selected in each grade level, and their stories will be presented on NHPTV’s website. Local first place winners in grades K-3 advance to the national competition. An awards ceremony will be held in June at the NHPTV Broadcasting Center in Durham to recognize the winners.“Kids naturally have a keen sense of curiosity and incredible imaginations,” notes Peter A. Frid, President and CEO of New Hampshire Public Television. “The PBS KIDS GO! Writers Contest provides an opportunity for children to express their ideas while fostering key early literacy skills such as story-telling.” Applications and information about the contest are at nhptv.org/kidswrite.
