New Hampshire PBS Public Media Leader Dawn DeAngelis to Retire

Durham, NH (August 19, 2026) – New Hampshire PBS today announced that Dawn DeAngelis, Vice President and Chief Content Officer, will retire on October 2, 2026, following a 46-year career at the forefront of commercial broadcasting, public television and the emergence of multi-platform media.

DeAngelis joined New Hampshire PBS in 2000 as producer of NH OUTLOOK, the station’s award-winning nightly public affairs program. She was named Chief Content Officer in 2008 and, in 2011 she was promoted to her current position, overseeing the station’s day-to-day operations as well as local productions, broadcast, online, educational outreach and communications. 

“Dawn is an industry powerhouse whose visionary leadership has put New Hampshire PBS on the map,” said Peter Frid, President and CEO. “She has been instrumental in creating dozens of award-winning local programs and live broadcasts throughout her tenure, and she has never stopped looking for new ideas or partnerships to create programs that make a real difference for the people of New Hampshire.”

For example, in response to concerns over New Hampshire’s growing news deserts, DeAngelis joined a small group of independent journalism outlets across the state in 2018 to launch The Granite State News Collaborative. NHPBS was its fiscal sponsor until the Collaborative became its own 5013c in October 2023. She is currently its Board Chair.

Her work with the GSNC continued during the COVID-19 pandemic, with the digital launch of THE STATE WE’RE IN, hosted by Melanie Plenda, Director of the Granite State News Collaborative. Beyond the pandemic, the weekly series continues to provide context and explore solutions to some of New Hampshire’s most pressing issues.

DeAngelis spearheaded many documentaries and projects over the years, including the award-winning OUR HOMETOWN series with New Hampshire author Rebecca Rule, celebrating 14 communities and more than 400 online stories. She also helped bring SENIORITY AUTHORITY from podcast to a nationally distributed television series with host Cathleen Toomey.

A champion of local voices and independent filmmakers, DeAngelis helped establish a pipeline of documentaries for NHPBS and was instrumental in presenting a variety of programs to national distributors. She also fostered collaborations with organizations throughout the state to promote and produce various projects.

DeAngelis also played a critical role in helping New Hampshire PBS navigate two of its most significant financial challenges: the loss of $2.7 million in annual state funding in 2011 and the loss of $1.3 million in annual federal funding in 2025.

“Dawn’s day-to-day knowledge of the station has been instrumental on how we navigated these two crises,” said Jeff Gilbert, Chair of the Board. “We were incredibly fortunate to have Dawn’s leadership during these critical times, and the station has survived and thrived during her tenure.”

Before joining NHPBS, DeAngelis lived and worked in the San Franciso/Bay Area where she spent 20 years producing television news programs for ABC and CBS affiliate stations. Along with supervising the daily production of LIVE newscasts, she planned and managed special events such as election, earthquake, wildfire and flood coverage. It is where she learned the value of public service journalism.

“I’ve had a wonderful career working with some of the best in the business,” DeAngelis said. “I have always loved my job – and the people I’ve worked with. I am most proud of my teams who have produced community focused educational programming and engagement opportunities. All our work is designed to benefit New Hampshire residents long past broadcast. Our partnership with NH Humanities, The Big Watch and THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION exemplify the power of public media.”

She is looking forward to watching the station continue its hard won sustainability and especially seeing where the next generation of leaders will take it next.

“Dawn leaves a lasting legacy at New Hampshire PBS that will continue to shape the station for years to come,” said Ed MacKay, Vice Chair of the Board. “Her leadership and commitment have made NHPBS stronger and we wish her all the best in her next chapter.”
