  • 1536 - Henry VIII's second wife, Anne Boleyn, is beheaded.
  • 1780 - New England's Dark Day is experienced over New England and parts of Canada. It was caused by smoke from forest fires, fog, and low cloud cover.
  • 1848 - Mexico ratifies the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo ending the Mexican-American War and ceding California, Nevada, Utah, and parts of some other states to the US for $15 million.
  • 1921 - Congress passes the Emergency Quota Act establishing quotas on immigration.
  • 1962 - Marilyn Monroe sings an infamous rendition of "Happy Birthday" to President Kennedy at Madison Square Garden.
  • 2018 - Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are married at St George's Chapel, Windsor.
