AMERICAN REVOLUTION HISTORY ON THIS DATE

1740 – Arthur Lee was born on this date in 1740. Lee was a physician, diplomat, and abolitionist from Virginia. He negotiated and signed the 1778 Treaty of Alliance with France, along with Benjamin Franklin and Silas Deane. The treaty formalized both the financial and military support of France for the Revolutionary government of the colonies.

1790 - The first successful cotton mill in the U.S. begins operating in Pawtucket, R.I.
1946 - It's a Wonderful Life has a charity preview showing in New York City.
1989 - The U.S. launches Operation Just Cause and sends troops into Panama to topple General Manuel Noriega's government.
2019 - The United States Space Force becomes the first new branch of the United States Armed Forces since the Air Force in 1947
