- 1730 - General Friedrich Wilhelm von Steuben, the Prussian-born army officer who played a leading role in the American Revolutionary War by reforming the Continental Army into a disciplined and professional fighting force, was born on his date in 1730.
- 1760 - Plympton, Massachusetts, native Deborah Sampson, who dressed as a man and fought during the Revolutionary War, was born on this date in 1760.
- 1777 - France formally recognizes the United States.
