1774 - Penelope Barker hosts the Edenton Tea Party, and 51 women gather and draft a resolution to boycott British imports, which they sent to England.

1415 - Henry V of England defeats the French cavalry in the Battle of Agincourt.
1760 - King George III succeeds to the British throne following the death of his grandfather, George II.
1854 - The Battle of Balaclava, memorialized in the poem "Charge of the Light Brigade" by Alfred Lord Tennyson, takes place during the Crimean War.
1940 - Benjamin O. Davis Sr. becomes the first African American general in the United States Army.
1971 - The UN General Assembly votes to admit mainland China and expel Taiwan.
1983 - A U.S.-led force invades Grenada.
1986 - The Mets win Game 6 of the World Series in the 10th inning when a ground ball goes through Red Sox first baseman Bill Buckner's legs. (Still not over it.)
