    1692 -  Bridget Bishop is the first person tried for witchcraft in Salem, Massachusetts. She is found guilty and later hanged.

  • 1924 - President Calvin Coolidge signs the Indian Citizenship Act,  granting citizenship to all Native Americans born in the United States.
  • 1953 -  Queen Elizabeth II is crowned in Westminster Abbey
  • 1981 - The video game Donkey Kong makes its U.S. debut. 
  • 1997 - Timothy McVeigh is convicted on 15 counts of murder and conspiracy for his role in the 1995 bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City
